We had a birthday recently for one of our crew and his FAVORITE meal (and it's a tie between pizza and burgers and chicken strips) is this dish. Now, the Mr. of our household is not a fan! We both grew up on spaghetti in our households and he got burnt out on it he says so as an adult it is a meal he can do without! However, THIS won him over! It was incredible. Next time we make this dish we decided we will make our tomato sauce from scratch too by simmering Roma tomatoes and herbs.
We know we know - authentic spaghetti is NOT prepared this way at all, however, it is still most definitely a family favorite. We found a recipe online and wanted to share here!
Our Spin on This Recipe: We mix our ground beef with Italian sausage, garlic powder salt and pepper. We prefer to add chopped pepperoncini peppers as well as crushed red pepper flakes in the sauce while simmering! The recipe calls for dried parsley flakes and garlic powder but we preferred fresh parsley and minced fresh garlic. We also season our pasta when done with drizzling olive oil, garlic powder, a pinch of salt and Italian seasoning. (Those ingredients are measured to your liking.) We double most recipes because we feed a small army with our crew and that can be easily done here or follow the recipe depending on your family size.
We hope you enjoy this recipe we found from "https://tastesbetterfromscratch.com/homemade-spaghetti-sauce/" as much as we do! Don't be afraid to make it your own too!
What You'll Need:
1 lb of ground beef - We used half lb of ground beef and half pound of Italian sausage.
Salt and pepper to taste - we also use garlic powder and Italian seasoning in our beef mixture.
1 medium onion
15oz tomato sauce - and quality makes the difference here!
6oz tomato paste - and quality makes the difference here too!
1/2 tsp of Italian seasoning
1TBSP dried parsley flakes (we used fresh parsley instead)
1 tsp of garlic powder (we used fresh minced garlic instead)
Crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
1 TBSP of Worcestershire sauce - and yes there is a debate in our home on how to say this! LOL
1TBSP sugar
1 C of water
1/4 C of fresh basil leaves
1 lb of spaghetti noodles
What You'll Do:
Season ground beef with salt, pepper and other spices you prefer if you wish.
Add onions and garlic to ground beef then brown. Drain excess grease.
Add tomato sauce, tomato paste, Italian seasoning, parsley, garlic powder, crushed red pepper, Worcestershire sauce and sugar to the skillet.
Stir well and bring to a boil. Add the water and stir.
